  I give Aquanology the highest of reviews and would not use anyone else after our  recent  experiences.  Matthew and assistant recently installed a dual alternating softener, a 20 micron carbon block filter and a water on water reverse osmosis additional filter for drinking water, all in the basement of our Pittsford home with an additional line carrying the ultra high quality drinking water  to a seperate smaller faucet in our kitchen sink.  Matthew explained that we would receive excellent quality water without some of these more expensive upgrades but we requested them due to special health concerns.  We had contacted Aquanology 18 months before when our previous company refused to continue servicing an older system.  We were impressed by their many excellent reviews.  There was never any pressure or disturbing calls.  Matthew took the time to explain everything at our level of understanding, tested our water before the final recommendations and after the installation.  They arrived on time, were very considerate with our home and cleaning up after themselves.  They disposed of all waste and the old system.  They declined breakfast and lunch in a friendly manner as they brought their own.  They promptly sent us the cancelled receipt  for our records.  Pricing is very competitive.  They explained how to service the system ourselves, which really involves very little, but we chose to ask them back for a 6 month service call which is reasonably priced.  We felt we knew everything about the system and could ask Matthew anything.  We felt very safe and at ease.  At one week after installation all is working well and water quality is excellent. Frequently Asked Questions

My UV system is alerting me that the lamp is due to change, yet i can clearly see that the lamp is still running. Why must I replace it?

Remember that UV-C rays of light are part of the invisible light spectrum. Although UV lamps emit some light that we can see, the UV rays that are actually doing the disinfection we cannot see. When a lamp is brand new, it puts out much more UV rays than it would need to, but they gradually lose UV output. UV lamp manufacturers rate their lamps so they are still producing enough of UV to disinfect the water at the specified water flow rate for the system at the end of the lamp life. By not replacing the lamp, the UV will gradually dissipate until there will not be sufficient UV rays to do the proper disinfection.

Why are there UV lamps for sale online so much cheaper than the brand name replacement lamps?

As in the case with many things, aftermarket products are usually cheaper than OEM replacement parts. And there are definitely companies that manufacture good quality, aftermarket UV lamps. However, caution should be exercised when buying UV lamps from an unknown source, since some cheap UV lamps do not emit the correct amount of UV rays for disinfection. Keep in mind that although the lamp may power on, and produce light, we can’t tell how much UV radiation is being produced, since that is an invisible part of the light spectrum. (The true way to test would be with a UV sensor monitor.) For such reasons it is advisable to purchase original replacement lamps or another reputable manufacturer.

Are UV-C rays harmful to the eyes?

Yes, exposure to UV-C rays can cause burns to the skin and eyes, called photokeratitis. The time needed to cause these burns can vary from seconds to minutes, depending on the intensity of the UV-C radiation. For this reason, when performing maintenance on your UV disinfection system, never remove a UV lamp from its reaction chamber while it is still powered on. Always turn the water off, depressurize the unit, unplug the unit from electrical power before attempting to service.
